Precision from a single source
A world-leading plant manufacturer in the paper, pulp and energy industry relies on our integrated expertise for the production of large flame-cut parts with deep-hole drilling for heating elements.
Valmet Oyj, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, is a leading international supplier of process technologies, automation systems, special components and complete production lines for the paper, pulp and energy industries. Valmet's subsidiaries in Sweden and Poland have been among our customers for almost ten years. They rely on our customised steel work for highly stressed components for heating units that are used, for example, in systems for producing paper napkins. In this highly competitive industry, the systems and components for pulp and paper processing must guarantee the highest level of process stability to ensure a consistently high product quality and the profitability required. In view of the intense heat, humidity and high running speeds in production conditions, the demands on the units used and the machine running times are correspondingly high. The orders Valmet places with us involve the manufacture of flame-cut parts, including mechanical processing and deep-hole drilling. The design principle for these components, which we generally manufacture from S355J2+N and to a lesser extent from S235JR+N, is always the same. However, there are significant differences in the dimensions of the flame-cut parts and, therefore, also in the length of the deep-hole bores. For the flame-cut parts with a width of 520 millimetres, the lengths range from 5,000 to 11,600 millimetres, and the raw material thicknesses vary between 100 and 130 millimetres. The particular challenge in such processes, therefore, lies in deep-hole drilling up to a total length of 11,600 millimetres. This unusual length requires proven expertise and the appropriate machinery. Our scope of work includes cutting the rectangle to the rough dimensions, stress relief annealing or vibratory stress relief and precision straightening. We employ proven external partners from our partner network, which we have built up diligently over the years, for mechanical processing in the form of milling and deep-hole drilling. We then handle the shipping for onward transport to Valmet. The precision and reliability of our manufacturing from a single source assures Valmet that these critical components can withstand the high demands of the pulp industry in the long term.
